Beach

Summercloud and Mays bays lie within the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community, with the small settlement located on slopes rising behind the western side of Summercloud Bay. There is vehicle access to the eastern end of Summercloud Bay where there is a large car park and boat ramp. Summercloud Bay (NSW 446) is a semicircular, 500 m wide southwest-facing bay, bordered by the protruding arms of Shellys and Cemetery points. Between the two points is the 340 m long beach, which is moderately sheltered with waves averaging about 1 m and boat launching possible in the eastern corner. The waves maintain a low gradient beach fronted by a narrow low tide terrace and sandy bay floor. The beach is backed by a vegetated foredune and small lagoon, which drains across the eastern end. Larger south swell forms a shallow bar and occasional rips against the western rocks. However the bay is best known for the surf that break out on Shelly Point.

Swimming

These two beaches are moderately sheltered beaches under normal low wave conditions, however when waves are breaking the rips will intensify and caution should be used.

Surfing

Surfers travel great distances when they think Summercloud Bay is working, for it produces a classic reef break out on Shellys Point. It breaks left and right to 2 m, above which a very heavy left starts and can hold to 4 m. It is also known as Aussie Pipe or Pipeline after its Hawaiian counterpart.
