Beach

Mary Cove (NSW 447) lies on the western side of the Wreck Bay settlement and can only be reached on foot via a locked vehicle track from the end of the Wreck Bay road next to the cemetery. The track reaches the eastern end of the beach where a few small fishing boats are kept and launched. The 400 m wide bay faces southwest, with the beach curving for 440 m between the protruding boundary points to face southwest, with some flat rocks on the eastern end and a cobble beach at the western end. It receives slightly higher waves than Summercloud, and usually has a shallow attached bar, with 1-2 small rips cutting across it, particularly along the western end of the beach. It is backed by a low foredune, then a small lagoon, which exits across the eastern end of the beach (Fig. 4.339).

Swimming

These two beaches are moderately sheltered beaches under normal low wave conditions, however when waves are breaking the rips will intensify and caution should be used.

Surfing

Surfers travel great distances when they think Summercloud Bay is working, for it produces a classic reef break out on Shellys Point. It breaks left and right to 2 m, above which a very heavy left starts and can hold to 4 m. It is also known as Aussie Pipe or Pipeline after its Hawaiian counterpart.
