Beach

Tabourie Beach (NSW 479) begins in lee of Crampton Island where its faces south, then curves round for 1.7 km facing east-southeast, and finally north in lee of a rock reef called Stokes Island. The central section of the beach is usually cut by 6-8 rips, with the bar alternating between being attached and detached (Fig. 4.357). Near the island is a close-in reef, called Dum-Dums, which in low to moderate swell can produce some good lefts and rights. These reefs also reduce the waves at the beach. It can be accessed via a car park and picnic area at its northern end and in the centre.

Swimming

These three beaches are isolated and rip-dominated, so use with caution.

Surfing

The bars and rips produce numerous beach breaks, with Dum-Dums reef the most consistent spot.

Fishing

Crampton Island is a popular rock fishing spot but only safe in low swell conditions, so use caution if fishing here. Stokes Island is flatter but awash in big seas. The beaches usually offer persistent rip holes and fewer fishers the further you walk.

General

Between Crampton Island and Termeil Point are three beaches (NSW 479-481) with access only available at the northern end of Tabourie Beach. The three are backed by vegetated foredunes and the densely wooded Termeil State Forest, with some minor dune activity behind Tabourie.
