Beach

Salamander Bay lies on the eastern side of Wanda Wanda Head. The semicircular shaped bay faces north and contains two low energy beaches and sand flats separated by a low energy central section of mangroves. The western side of the bay has a narrow 875 km long high tide beach (PS 7), which narrows to the west and is finally replaced by mangroves. Foreshore Drive backs the beach and provides access to two beachfront parks, the westernmost containing a playground and picnic area.

A 1.5 km long section of mangroves dominate the southern bay shore, with the eastern beach (PS 8) emerging from the mangroves and curving north to the lee of 30 m high Corlette Head, with a seawall backing the eastern section of beach. The narrow high tide beach is fronted by 50 m wide intertidal sand flats (Fig. 4.129), with numerous boats moored off the flats. It is backed by a grassy reserve with dinghies pulled up for storage, a section of beachfront houses, then Foreshore Drive
