Beach 597 is a 4.4 km long sand beach, initially backed by older recurved spits, then continuing as a 3 km long solitary sand spit. The northeast-facing beach begins at the low rocky point adjacent to beach NT 596 and terminates as a sandy series of recent recurved spits at Wurugoij Creek mouth. It has irregular 1 km wide sand and rock flats off the northern end, which narrow, then widen to 1 km off the creek mouth. In addition there are two small rock outcrops along the northern half of the beach.
