Beach

Indian Bay beach (Q 342) commences against the western side of the Cape and curves slightly to the southwest for 4 km to where reef-fronted mangroves dominate the shore. While the beach faces southeast it is protected by fringing coral reefs and the larger Mason and Nomad reefs located 10-25 km offshore. A few mangroves grow along the back of the fine sand, low gradient beach and its 300 m wide series of ridged sand flats, fringed by irregular fringing reefs. The beach is backed by a 0.5-1 km wide series of densely vegetated blowouts and small parabolics, then the salt flats and mangroves of the southern shore of Margaret Bay and MacMillan River to the west. A well defined walking track leads from the eastern end of the beach along the base of the cape to the eastern end of Margaret Bay.
