Beach

Beach 744 is an east facing, 3 km long beach, that has built out 200 to 300 m from the backing steep slopes of the Malbon Thompson Ranges, which rise to 1 000 m within 2.5 km of the beach. There is no access to the beach, and today dense vegetation covers the backing sand ridges and steep slopes.

The first 500 m of the beach are intersected by a rocky point, and numerous rocks outcrop along the beach. For the next 2.5 km it is a continuous, steep, sandy beach, with vegetation hanging over the high tide beach. A 50 m wide, continuous bar is exposed at low tide.

Swimming

There is deep water off the main beach at high tide, while low waves break across the bar at mid to low tide.

Surfing

Only low waves breaking across the narrow bar.

Fishing

Best at high tide, although you can cast across the bar at low tide. There is a rough fishing camp on Beach 744.

General

An isolated beach surrounded by dense tropical vegetation.
