Beach

The exposed eastern side of Moreton Island runs for 38 km from rocky North Point down to elongate, sandy Reeders Point. In between are the rocks of the cape, then a 31 km long, slightly curving, high energy, east facing beach that extends from the south side of the cape down to the beginning of the large South Passage tidal channel. The beach then continues on for another 6 km inside the passage to Reeders Point, with increasing protection afforded by the offshore tidal shoals.

Eager beach (MOR5D) is a 5 km long beach section centred on the small Eager Creek, that drains the backing Eager Swamp. This creek also has a popular camping area. The main beach access track from Tangalooma, 5 km to the west, reaches the southern end of this beach section.

Swimming

This entire 31 km long beach is dominated by up to 150 rips across the inner bar, together with the deep longshore trough and outer bar. Use extreme care if swimming along the unpatrolled beach. Stay close inshore on the attached portion of the inner bar and clear of the rips.

Surfing

There are literally hundreds of beach breaks along the length of the beach, with conditions depending on the swell, tide and winds.

Fishing

A very popular beach for fishing the rip holes; the reason the majority of campers come over to the island.

General

A magnificent, long, natural beach, relatively safe for driving at low tide, with camping spots at Blue Lagoon and Eager Creek and many kilometres of sand and surf.
