Beach

Beach WA 14 marks change in the shoreline from one backed by sand dunes, to a calcarenite section of coast backed by the southern end of the 80-90 m high Hampton escarpment. The Pleistocene dunes reached the base of the escarpment and in places climbed to the crest. These conditions continue west for the 14 km to the Baxter Cliffs. The first 6.5 km long section is backed by sloping vegetated dune calcarenite rising within 1.5 km to the crest of the escarpment. The calcarenite also dominates the shoreline with outcrops along the beach and off the beach as inter to subtidal reefs. Wave averaging over 1 m break over the reef, forming numerous reef-induced crenulations alongshore. As a result the beach is generally impassable for vehicles.
