Beach

Beach WA 1169 is a 100 m long pocket of sand located at the mouth of a small gully. It lies in lee of a rocky gap in the platform, with waves breaking over a 50 m wide platform and rock strewn surf zone. The Zuytdorp wreck is located along a 5 km long section of the cliffs with no high tide beaches. These commence about 3 km north of the wreck site at beach WA 1170 and continue north for 17 km to the first significant inflection in the cliffs since Kalbarri. In between are 16 beaches (WA 1170-1185), all located at the base of the 100 m high cliffs and all dominated by calcarenite rocks, reefs and platforms and exposed wave waves averaging about 1.5 m (Fig. 4.288). There is vehicle access to the cliffs above a few of the beaches, with access to most beaches down steep, narrow gullies that dissect the cliffs.
